Instructor: Dr Eunmi Pearson 4th Dan Black Belt

Eunmi Pearson is one of our female instructors and holds a 4th Dan Black Belt at Taekwondo proving that girls and boys can both be very successful at Taekwondo! Eunmi is also a qualified national poomsae (patterns) referee and a member of the GB National team!
Eunmi co-founded the Japanese branch of Phoenix Taekwondo in Tokyo, teaching tri-lingual classes for children, women and men over a 5 year period.

Eunmi is a native Korean and ensures that all of Phoenix Taekwondo’s Korean terminology is legitimate and up to scratch, including our pronunciation! . Due to these language skills, in the past, Eunmi has often been asked to provide translation services for the national governing body for Taekwondo in the U.K., "British Taekwondo" for their correspondence with the World Taekwondo headquarters (The Kukkiwon) in South Korea. She has also provided a similar translation and terminology checking services for other Taekwondo clubs in the UK.

Away from Taekwondo, Eunmi is a full time Primary School Teacher so understands the needs and development of young children. In a previous life she was a professional instructor and interpreter and former university lecturer in English, Korean and Japanese, obtaining a doctorate in Comparative Japanese, Korean and Chinese Literature at University. In her Primary School, as well as the national curriculum, Eunmi also teaches the subjects of Japanese, Music and of course Taekwondo, delivering martial arts classes as part of the school curriculum to over 100 KS2 primary school children every week!

Finally, being a mum herself, also means that Eunmi can relate closely to children’s needs in Taekwondo.
